Bangkok Summer and CORAN: How We Build for the Hot Season

Bangkok's 'summer' is the three months from March through May. The hottest stretch of the year, and humid. Daytime temperatures push close to 40°C, and even at night they don't dip below 30. After 19 years at CORAN, the bookings during these three months follow a pattern. The clients who come in have skin and nerves tired from the heat.

Summer clients' bodies are tired from two sources. One is the heat outside — sunburn, dehydration, mild heat exhaustion. The other is the air conditioning indoors. Bangkok offices and shopping malls are aggressively cold; half a day inside and the body chills to the core. Bouncing between 40°C outside and 20°C inside, several times a day. That temperature swing throws the autonomic nervous system off — and more clients complain of stiff shoulders, headaches, and trouble sleeping. 'Tired from being cold even though it's summer' is a particular Bangkok-summer thing.

Each year, we run a promotion tied to the hot season called 'Summer Escape.' During March through May, we apply coupon discounts to selected courses. The specifics of the discount change year to year, but the idea is consistent: discount certain summer-appropriate courses so the tired summer body has an easier reason to come in. The details for the current season can be checked at booking.

What we most often recommend to summer clients is the aromatherapy package. Three reasons. 1) The oils used are lighter, with a cooling effect on the skin. 2) The aroma helps settle the nervous system, which gets knocked around by the temperature swings. 3) The shower afterward acts as a reset for a heat-tired body. Ayurveda also fits, but Ayurveda is fundamentally a warming practice, and some clients find it heavy in summer. Aromatherapy feels lighter.

A few things you can do at home to keep the body steady through summer. 1) Don't set the indoor air conditioning below 25°C. Too cold cools you internally. 2) Drink room-temperature or warm drinks rather than cold — two liters a day. 3) Soak in a bath at night (Bangkok condominiums often don't have bathtubs, but even soaking the feet in warm water helps). 4) If you're going to exercise outdoors, do it in the relatively cooler 6–7 AM window.

Some summer situations don't suit a spa visit. Showing up severely dehydrated, you can feel ill during the treatment. We ask that clients pay attention to hydration the day before and the day of. If you have heat-exhaustion symptoms (nausea, dizziness, headaches that won't stop), we'd recommend a clinic, not a spa session. We aren't medicine. When summer has knocked your health off, see a doctor first.

We're on the 3rd floor of Night Hotel Bangkok, Sukhumvit Soi 15. Five minutes from BTS Asok. We close at 21:00; last booking calculated backward from the chosen course length (a 90-minute course can be booked until 19:30). Same-day booking with four hours' notice via website, LINE (@coranboutiquespa), WhatsApp, or phone (+66-62-587-5366; Japanese line +66-82-658-1088). Details of the current 'Summer Escape' promotion can be confirmed with staff at booking.

Bangkok summer isn't tourism high season. But for people living here long-term, it's something you have to come through every year. Don't cool the body too much, restore it when it has been cooled too much, take the evenings quiet — that's a rhythm that suits Bangkok summer. We hope CORAN's 'Summer Escape' fits into that rhythm for you.
